Cosmic Shadings
Mixed in with the strip's "gags," (I put "gags" in quotation marks because Barefootz's funny moments shared the stage with much "trippy" humor that alternated between the transcendent and the unfathomable) was the sense that extra realms of reality were always hovering just beyond the characters' material plane of existence. This line of thought tended to surface regularly in the work of us artists who dabbled in psychedelic drugs.
