Mixed Reception
	Some Comix Book readers dug Barefootz, but of course every negative response was etched in my mind. My confidence was further undermined by the reports I began getting that almost all of the heavy-duty San Francisco undergrounders hated my work with a passion. Since these guys were the underground's "aristocracy," their all-but-universal rejection of my work generated self-doubts by the barrel. Was Barefootz really as "juvenile and adolescent" as they claimed? I looked at it and saw conventional "lovability" being slyly subverted, but maybe I was kidding myself.
