The program for an earlier staged reading of Weikel's play had used an image downloaded from the Web by playwright Doric Wilson (the founder and managing director of TOSOS II). It was a public domain illustration from an early edition of Dickens' The Old Curiosity Shop, to which Wilson had added a graffiti-style moustache to suggest the play's impertinent tone. I was encouraged to depart from this makeshift graphic at will, but it did give me some ideas.

(I don't know the identity of this drawing's illustrator. George Cruikshank, a frequent Dickens illustrator, is a candidate, but this doesn't strike my unschooled eyes as exactly his style. I could well be wrong, though. If any of you recognize the drawing and know who drew it, please let me know and I'll give credit where credit is due.)
