After some pondering I named the fellow Barefootz and cast him as the lead in a comic strip about a free spirit trying to fit into a conventional workplace environment, a theme that reflected my own ambivalence toward the necessity of supporting myself with a "day job" when I would rather draw cartoons or trip on LSD all day.

I had newspaper syndication in mind, but the syndicates to whom I sent samples weren't welcoming.
