Strictly speaking, the name of this story is "The Guide," but everyone has always called it "My First Acid Trip" because of the inexpert way I laid out its splash panel It's a cautionary tale about the hazards of baby-sitting for a bunch of crazed acid-trippers when one has never taken the drug oneself, as well as a spoof of all the dire warnings about psychedelic drugs that came our way during the hippie era. It was one of my first experiments in mock-autobiography, a genre I've returned to many times over the years. "My First Acid Trip" (uh, I mean "The Guide") was first published in Dope Comix #3 (Kitchen Sink Comix, 1979). |
